Why do I need an EIN?

A Federal tax ID Number (also known as a Employer Identification Number) is required for every new business in every state in the United States. States also require the number when registering businesses within states, such as with your Secretary of State's corporation office (or some similar type of office in your state)

When you register at a bank for a checking account for your business, you will be required to give them your number, and of course when you do you taxes a number is required.
